Finding the “Big Thing”: Narrowing Your Focus

Description:

In this fall walk we will learn how to focus on the “Big Things” in nature. We will use sighting tube, binoculars, sighting scopes, telephoto lenses, and picture frames to narrow our frame of reference. You will leave this walk with a new perspective, while developing your skills as a photographer, writer, poet, painter, or illustrator. Prepare yourself for the Big, Bold, and Beautiful.

Far Away from It All: Finding Solitude in Nature

The Plashes Conservation Area, Dennis Port

Description:

A joint program of the daVinci Pursuit and the Dennis Conservation Land Trust (DLCT). The end of summer can sometimes be difficult to get away from the crowds at the beach and the things we need to do to get ready for fall. Join us for this leisurely and restorative walk in a place on the Cape removed from the crowds and sounds of people. Be prepared to create through whatever art form you choose the feelings you have when finding solitude. Bring along a stool, chair, or at to rest on while developing another chapter of your journal.

The Hues of Summer: An Exploration of Color

Bush & Indian Lands Conservation Areas, South Dennis

Desciption:

A joint program of the daVinci Pursuit and the Dennis Conservation Land Trust (DLCT). Summer brings a new palette of beautiful color to our walks. We will learn some color theory and ways to use colors to express emotion and beauty. We will journal in words and painting the amazing technicolor world on the Cape in Summer. Participants will be provided with personal color wheels and artistic techniques for blending and painting.

If I Were a Bug: From the Perspective of an Insect

Flax Pond Conservation Area, South Dennis

Description:

A joint program of the daVinci Pursuit and the Dennis Conservation Land Trust (DLCT). What would the world around you look like if you were a bug? What kind of bug might you choose to be? Bring your creativity and imagination when we express ourselves through art from the perspective of insects. In this walk we will challenge you to look through the tiny lens of some of nature’s smallest animals, so feel free to bring along hand lenses and magnifiers as well as camera with a macro or telephoto lens.

Beauty in Unlikely Places

Lowell Park Woodlands, Cotuit

Description: 

It’s International Trails Day! What better way to get outdoors and “Hike Barnstable” than with this discovery walk. Sometimes beauty hides waiting for us to discover it in some of the most unlikely places. The walk is intended to introduce participants to the science concepts through the arts as well as some techniques for capturing the best impression. The walks are designed for artists, photographers, and families of all ages and ability levels. Each walk represents a unique perspective of Trust lands. ($10 members/$15 nonmembers)

Inspired by Haiku: Exploring Through the Art of Poetry

Description:

A joint program of the daVinci Pursuit and the Dennis Conservation Land Trust (DLCT). On this very special Mother’s Day walk we will listen to nature inspired Haiku poetry that will inspire us to explore the natural world around us. We will write our own Haiku’s as well as painting, drawing, and photographing what we feel when listening to the poems. This a time to celebrate Mom with a casual and inspiring walk in nature.
